RE: Submission to National Energy Board by Enbridge–Aboriginal Engagement; update to Application Volume 5A and Volume 5B.
Dear Colette Spagnuolo,
The Office of the Wet’suwet’en working on behalf of the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs who govern over their 38 houses territories which covers 22,000 sq2 of traditional territory; any and all discussions that occur within the Wet’suwet’en authority over economic activities planned or proposed by industry within our traditional territory are discussed with the hereditary chiefs.
The Office of the Wet’suwet’en wants assurance that a proper decision making process has been employed, and should also reflect the historical efforts, priorities, and approaches the Office of the Wet’suwet’en has towards specific projects in the region, which truly reflects the aspirations of the populous.
As a regulatory body that oversees major projects such as the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline, we expect that the Federal Government has the information made available to the public is truthful and not misleading.
The Office of the Wet’suwet’en has never gone into discussion with Enbridge towards a host of written submissions that Enbridge is claiming in the Aboriginal Engagement update being used within their documentation gathering. Enbridge has referenced materials that were used to assess a Natural Gas Pipeline, and not a twinning Bitumen Oil/Condensate Pipeline, which is significantly different.
This information is posted on NEB’s website, as well as Enbridge’s Facebook site:
Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Files Updated Information …
Enbridge Northern Gateway wrote a note titled Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Files Updated Information Including Aboriginal Consultation With NEB.

The Office of the Wet’suwet’en expect that Canadian Federal and Provincial Governments act in rectifying this misinformation that has been posted on the National Energy Board’s webpage concerning the Office of the Wet’suwet’en communication and discussions with Enbridge is highly inaccurate and may be subject to Legal ramification.

Section of concern for the Office of the Wet’suwet’en is:
5.7
5.7.1 Office of the Wet’suwet’en
P.5-263 to P.5-272
If the Federal Government facilitate, and allows this type of direct miscommunication against a First Nation on a regulatory communication on procedures, and given to a quasi-judicial board; such that the Joint Review Panel operates. Then they have initiated the process of submitting false and misleading information to the board.
If Governments empower outside industry to impose their values or materially interrupt discussions towards any action perceived or suggested without confirmation, then what is the value of the process.
This misconception, and misleading information is of high concern for the Wet’suwet’en; our integrity, and standing within our membership and community has been breached. What will NEB do about this, is there a process of exercising due diligence and validating submitted information?
The JRP will have to take this into consideration as to their quasi-judicial system of information submitted, and released. As of today, the Office of the Wet’suwet’en request this be removed from submissions to the NEB/CEAA/JRP until a resolve is reached.
Missiyh,
David de Wit
