Chief: Gisdaywa (Alfred Joseph)
Gisdaywa is a member of the Hagwilget community. He took his chief name in 1975. He shares his wisdom of traditional history and Wet’suwet’en culture by developing his skills as a carver and story teller. He worked hard with the other Wet’suwet’en chiefs in taking his stories to the Supreme Court of Canada providing Wet’suwet’en Title and Rights.
“We need to keep our culture intact including the feast hall system. We need to use our language in order for it to remain strong”.
